Lover’s Leap Trail 〣 Hot Springs, North Carolina
I just love how an area can looks so different in each season. We were in North Carolina this past October where we drove, hiked and explored the mountains as they were littered...
Discover the Real Florida at Hillsborough River State Park
If you’re looking for a hike in “the real Florida,” look no further than Hillsborough River State Park. The hiking trails skirt the edge of the Hillsborough River, a waterway born from the fresh water springs of Crystal River and the boggy marshlands of the Green Swamp.
Alum Cave Trail 〣 A Hiker’s Week in North Carolina
Today is “Victory Hike” Day! We have built up to this all week and now it’s time to really push ourselves. It was the longest and highest hike(in elevation gain) that Grant’s ever done, so he was a little nervous at the beginning.
DuPont State Forest 〣 A Hiker’s Week in North Carolina
On day 4 it’s time to increase the difficulty! DuPont State Forest is busting with waterfalls, so my hope was that I could distract Grant from the distance by some cool scenes to look at and explore.
Cherohala Skyway 〣 A Hiker’s Week in North Carolina
Today we decided to change it up with a new town, scenic drive and short hike. Our first stop in the morning was Bryson City. We arrived just as the sun was coming up and enjoyed breakfast at Mountain Perks.
Graveyard Fields 〣 A Hiker’s Week in North Carolina
It’s officially autumn and one of my favorite seasons to hike in the mountains! The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and the world is getting cozy. You can’t go wrong with North Carolina in October, so packed up the Subaru and headed north for a week of hiking adventures.
Day 29 〣 Colorado Trail Journal
COMPLETED. I woke up at 2am and I was so excited about finishing the trail today that could not go back to sleep. I’m going to miss being in nature 24/7 and the simplicity of life out here, but I miss Grant, sleeping in a bed and being clean ?
Day 28 〣 Colorado Trail Journal
Resistance. That’s what I dealt with this morning. I’m so close to finishing, but man I was over it! Last night I was the victim of a pretty viscous wind/rain storm. All. Night. Long. I felt like my tent was going to fly was l away with me inside. It was awful.
Day 27 〣 Colorado Trail Journal
So many beautiful views today! The morning started cold with spurts of hail. I think the recent rain has made it colder in general, and it’s making it harder and harder to get out of my sleeping bag each morning ?
Day 26 〣 Colorado Trail Journal
Started a bit later today than usual because I had to hitch to the trailhead this morning and I didn’t think I had a good chance of finding a ride if I left at 6am ? I also learned today that when you ask mother nature for a favor, you should be specific.
Day 25 〣 Colorado Trail Journal
Probably my shortest day on trail. I woke up a little later, but through the tent I could tell it was not as sunny as it should be for that time of morning. And sure enough the sky was completely grey and raining ?
Day 24 〣 Colorado Trail Journal
The sky was completely grey when I got out of my tent this morning. I hiked for the first hour eyeing the clouds wondering if this was going to be my day and hoping I wasn’t walking into the rain. I was ?
